Dr M. Jackson is a Senior Lecturer in Reservoir Engineering in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering at Imperial College London. He has a BSc in Physics from Imperial College London and a PhD in Geophysical Fluid Mechanics from the University of Liverpool. He joined Imperial College in 1997 as a Research Associate.
Dr Jackson’s research interests are in reservoir monitoring and modelling, with applications to improved oil and gas recovery and reservoir management. He has published numerous research papers, is a Review Chair for the SPE Journal and acts as a referee for several international journals. He currently leads two research groups at Imperial College which are funded by major oil companies. The Outcrop Modelling Group uses data from well exposed analogues to improve the industry’s understanding of multi-phase flow during hydrocarbon production and how this should be captured in reservoir models. The Smart Wells Group develops new reservoir monitoring techniques which can be used to improve reservoir management.
Dr Jackson delivers programmes in reservoir characterisation and modelling for several international oil companies. He teaches on the MSc courses in Petroleum Geoscience and Petroleum Engineering at Imperial College London, and also contributes to external courses in Reservoir Characterisation and Modelling, and Integrated Reservoir Management, which are run jointly by Imperial College and the Institute Francais du Petrole (IFP).
