Dr. Gary HampsonDr. Gary Hampson is a Senior Lecturer in Sedimentary Geology in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering at Imperial College London. He received a BA degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge (1991) and a PhD degree in sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy from the University of Liverpool (1995), prior to undertaking post-doctoral research at the University of Würzburg, Germany. He joined Imperial College in 1997 and teaches on the internationally renowned MSc Petroleum Geoscience, MSc Petroleum Engineering and MSc Petroleum Geophysics courses.

His research interests lie in the understanding of siliciclastic depositional systems and their preserved stratigraphy, and in applying this knowledge to reservoir characterisation. He has worked extensively on shallow marine, deltaic and coastal plain reservoirs and outcrop analogues. He has also helped to develop the use of insights from outcrop data to characterise reservoirs and model their fluid flow behaviour. Dr. Hampson has published over 50 research papers and is on the editorial board of three international journals.

Dr. Hampson teaches classroom and field courses in siliciclastic sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy and reservoir characterisation, and he has consulted on reservoir characterisation topics to several major oil companies.
